My name is Marissa, but you can call me Missy. I’m the Owner of Ogden Dreads. As long as I can remember, I have gravitated toward dreadlocks. in 2010, with the help of an encouraging boyfriend, I started my first set of dreadlocks. They turned out great, but without knowledge of how to maintain them, I ended up combing them out within the first year. However, my journey into the world of dreadlocks was only beginning. My interest in dreadlocks never wavered, and I was determined to try them again. In 2015, I found a professional dreadlock salon to start my second set and shortly after, started making and selling wire-wrapped dread-beads through the salon. It was the very beginning of what has become a multi-faceted passion for me. In 2017, I began training to do crochet-method maintenance on clients' dreadlocks, and by late that year, began installing new dreadlocks and human-hair extensions as well. In September of 2021, I opened Ogden Dreads to continue growing as an artist, loctician, and now entrepreneur. As of 2022, I have been maintaining my own dreadlocks and making dreadlock jewelry and accessories for close to 7 years and the number of sets of dreadlocks I have started or maintained is well into the thousands. I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and getting to know my clients on a deeper level and consider myself lucky to call what I do “work.” When I’m not making dread-magic or creating, you’ll find me curled up reading a good book, camping, hitting the trails with my best friend and fur-child, Monster, or exploring all Ogden has to offer with my daughter, Atlee.
